The snow was falling which was great news for some of our Year 5 and 6 Frankston Primary Students and staff member, Mrs Doyle as they made an early start on Wednesday July 26th for their three day camp to Mount Bulla. Along with students and staff from the Frankston Federation of Schools we made the bus journey to Mount Bulla and to our fabulous mountain accommodation, Ajax Lodge. It was then a case of getting ready to hit the slopes! Boots, helmets. skis, poles and gloves on, a challenge in itself to manage especially for our newcomers, we were ready to start.
Over the next three days students completed daily lessons with qualified ski instructors based on their ability levels. At all other times the supervising camp staff skied with groups of students. We were lucky enough to have Mr Rubinstein, our past Principal, leave the surf he had been enjoying in retirement and attend the camp as a volunteer.
After a full day skiing it was back to the lodge for a warm shower, 3 course dinner and a recap of the day from each group.
We also managed a Night Walk complete with the Penguin Slide and the traditional Snowball Fight. Thanks Sienna and Maya I think you girls got me every time.
It is always fantastic to see students from all the schools getting along together, creating new friendships and Frankston High School students providing extra support for their younger peers. Our FPS students are to be congratulated for the way in which they got along with others and were respectful to all the teachers and other adults on camp. They were also commended for their fabulous manners at the lodge and on the slopes. Well done Team!!
It was terrific to see all our students who attended the camp, experiencing success and enjoying the slopes!
After a great 2018 Snow Camp we returned home on the Friday night, tired but very happy campers!
